FOENUGREEK SEEDS

Foenugreek (Trigonella foenum-graecum L.) is an annual plant with leaves consisting of three small oblong leaflets. Its seeds are small, smooth and brown, each divided into two lobes.

The common name Foenugreek comes from the Latin foenum and Graecum.

The whole seeds are used to make tinctures, while powdered Foenugreek seed is a component of curry seasoning and an alternative to real maple in the manufacturing of candy and other confections.

Foenugreek is  native to India and southern Europe. For centuries it has grown wild in India, places of the Mediterranean and North Africa where it is mainly cultivated.
