Juniper (Juniperus communis) is an evergreen shrub belonging to the plants of the Greek flora and has needle-like, spiked, narrow leaves.
The fruits of the plant, known as juniper berries, are approved by the German Commission E for use in treating heartburn, indigestion and generally digestive disorder. Also used in cooking as a seasoning giving flavor to sausages, pork etc.
Their flavor is resinous and is preferred in the beverage industry especially for the production of gin.
